Coves (Caves) de Sant Josep is a stunning natural wonder located in the Valencian Community of Spain, about 45 minutes from Valencia. It is home to the longest navigable underground river in Europe, and its cavernous chambers are filled with incredible rock formations, stalactites, and stalagmites.
We had the opportunity to visit Coves de Sant Josep recently, and we were absolutely blown away by its beauty. The boat trip through the underground river was an unforgettable experience, and I was amazed by the sheer size and scale of the cave system. The underwater lighting was amazing.
One of the things that struck me most about Coves de Sant Josep was the size of the caverns and length of the “river”. The cave is incredibly quiet, and the only sound is the gentle lapping of the water against the sides of the boat. It’s a great place to escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life and simply relax and enjoy the beauty of nature. Not to be missed was the demonstration of their cavern “concert hall” (video below). Acoustics are incredible.
If you’re looking for a unique and unforgettable experience, I highly recommend visiting Coves de Sant Josep. It’s a truly special place that will stay with you long after you leave.
Here are some tips for visiting Coves de Sant Josep:
- Parking is free and
- Toilets are by the parking lot and near the cave entrance
- Wear comfortable shoes and clothing that you can move around in.
- We brought jackets, but it was warm in the cave, really not needed.
- The tour is about 1 hour and includes some walking in the cave as well.
- Book your tickets in advance, especially if you’re visiting during peak season.
