It&#8217;s the narrowest point between the Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranean Sea, and it&#8217;s been a major shipping route for centuries. I was finally going to get my chance to see it for myself.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I was on a transatlantic cruise on the Carnival Pride that was sailing from Tampa, Florida to Barcelona, Spain.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Strait of Gibraltar is about 8 miles wide at its narrowest point. Unfortunately, it was almost midnight and dark.
